Fraser fir (Abies fraseri) is one of many species threatened by climate change. This species only occurs on "islands" of cool, high-elevation habitats, which will shrink or disappear entirely as the climate warms. This thriving forest of Fraser Fir is at Mt. Mitchell, the highest point in the southern Appalachians; most populations of this species are not as robust as the one here.
