A typical site in rich, moist bottomlands, giant ragweed (Ambrosia trifida) is seen here growing together with giant goldenrod (Solidago gigantea). Because the flowers (greenish conical structures) of the ragweed are less showy, whereas the goldenrod flowers are quite showy, people who walk by such associations of plant and find their allergies start acting up, will often form a mental association of goldenrods causing their allergies, when in reality, ragweed is usually the culprit.
