This colony of giant goldenrod (Solidago gigantea) under a power line clearance in Wadesboro, NC is competing successfully with numerous invasives, including Japanese honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica) and kudzu (Pueraria montana), two of the most aggressive ones. Plants like this both compete for light, and compete in the rootspace for water and nutrients.
