Yellowdot Saxifrage (Saxifraga bronchialis L.)

BONAP does not recognize this taxon as valid, and has split it up between four species: Saxifraga austromontana, Saxifraga cherlerioides, Saxifraga funstonii, and Saxifraga vespertina, putting different varieties of S. bronchialis into different species. POWO, on the other hand, accepts this taxon and reports a range consistent with the USDA map, so for now we have retained the USDA's scheme. However, POWO also accepts those four species, which the USDA does not, and furthermore POWO reports similar ranges to what BONAP reports for those species; this is puzzling and we have not yet examined or resolved this inconsistency.

This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.

Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

This map is based on the USDA's county-level reports. This species is also native to Canada, in BC and AB; we have yet to build this portion of its range map.
