New Mexico Bird's-Foot Trefoil (Acmispon plebeius (Brandegee) Allred)
Also classified as Lotus plebeius (Brandegee) Barneby.
POWO has merged this species into Acmispon oroboides, whereas POWO has renamed it Acmispon plebeius (Brandegee) Allred but treats Acmispon oroboides (Kunth) Brouillet as a separate species. However, POWO lists a broader range for the species described by this name than USDA lists for this species or than BONAP does for Acmispon oroboides, suggesting that POWO may consider other populations as part of this taxon that neither USDA nor BONAP have merged in such a way. We have not yet been able to resolve these inconsistencies in a meaningful way. For now the range map for this species is based on the USDA's county-level data.

This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.
Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
This species is also found in northern Mexico, but we have yet to build this portion of its range map.
