New Mexico Beeblossom (Gaura neomexicana Wooton)

Also classified as Oenothera dodgeniana Krakos & W.L.Wagner.

BONAP and ITIS have merged this species into the Colorado beeblossom (Oenothera coloradensis), where it is mostly recognized as ssp neomexicana. The relationship is complex, however, as some sources refer to Oenothera neomexicana ssp. coloradensis, which BONAP then recognizes as a separate subspecies O. coloradensis ssp. coloradensis. However, POWO considers these species to be separate, but considers Gaura neomexicana Wooton a synonym of Oenothera dodgeniana Krakos & W.L.Wagner, a name BONAP does not recognize. We have kept them separate for now, per POWO's treatment, but note that the relationships here are complex, and our current setup is not necessarily definitive.
