Texas Mock Orange (Philadelphus texensis Hu)
BONAP considers Philadelphus texensis var. coryanus to be equivalent to canyon mock orange (Philadelphus ernestii). However, the USDA maps for these taxa do not overlap in a way that shows clear containment, nor does BONAP note false records. BONAP recognizes Philadelphus ernestii S.Y.Hu as a species, but POWO does not, instead recognizing it as a synonym of Philadelphus texensis var. ernestii (S.Y.Hu) Henrickson. We have not yet made sense of these inconsistencies. For now we use the treatment of USDA and POWO which seems relatively consistent.
