Perennial Glasswort (Salicornia perennis Mill.)

Also classified as Sarcocornia perennis (Mill.) A.J. Scott.

The USDA reports this species as occurring in North America on both east and west coasts; BONAP, however, considers the eastern populations as belonging to a separate species, Salicornia ambigua, and the Burke Herbarium reports that west coast populations were misclassified under this name, and actually belong to Pacific swampfire (Salicornia pacifica). Note that POWO, although it shares our classification scheme, reports incorrect ranges for these taxa that are probably an artifact of inconsistent naming across different sources. We retain this entry for reference but note that under our scheme, this taxon does not occur in North America.
