Summary

A flowering shrub native to South America, collected from the wild at one site in Massachussets, but thought to probably not be established in a sustaining population there.

Habitat

The potential habitat of this species in North America is not known, but it tends to prefer sites with moist soils.

Uses

This plant is used in landscaping, mainly in regions with subtropical climates. It is also occasionally used in colder climates as a houseplant or container plant that is moved indoors in colder weather.

Notes

Although Gobotany shows this plant occuring in Massachussets where it is collected, the USDA PLANTS website and BONAP do not list it as established in North America. It may have the potential to establish sustaining populations, but probably only in regions milder than New England.
