This species is occasionally planted in landscaping in North America. It is one of the parents of the hybrid London planetree (Platanus ×hispanica), the other being the American sycamore (Platanus occidentalis). That hybrid is more widely planted, because it is better-adapted to the climate here. This species' does not survive as well here, and particularly struggles in cold winters.
