About the Interior Plains and Piedmonts with Grasslands and Xeric Shrub

The Interior Plains and Piedmonts with Grasslands and Xeric Shrub represent the relatively flatter, lowland areas of the otherwise high-altitude and mountainous Transversal Neo-Volcanic System. Over most of this volcanic system, the interior plains and piedmonts region is small and scattered. The bulk of the broader region is contained within the Hills and Sierras with Conifer, Oak, and Mixed Forests.

Relative to the Hills and Sierras region, this region is more heavily utilized for agriculture. It also has significant urbanization, especially in the area around Mexico city, although Mexico City's metropolitan area is split between here and the Hills and Sierras region.
