Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
Different sources have wildly conflicting information on the distribution and native status of this species. We defer to BONAP's treatment which considers many of the records listed in USDA PLANTS to be erroneous. POWO reports it as native to Mexico but the rest of its range information is inaccurate so we are uncertain whether or not this species is native there. It is widely agreed to be native to South America. We have not yet build the portion of its map in Mexico.
