Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

This species is native to a broad range across Mexico. It is reported in Louisiana and sources agree that it is introduced there. BONAP and Florida Plant Atlas report it as native to Florida, but FSUS reports it as exotic there. We examined the dates of reports and there are no FL reports prior to 1964, in spite of this plant being widely reported throughout Mexico and Central America earlier, so it seems plausible that it may be introduced in Florida although the data were not overwhelmingly conclusive since early reports of this species were sparse everywhere. For now we mark its status in FL as uncertain. We have yet to build the portion of the map is Mexico.
