Johnny Reb Hawthorn (Crataegus versuta Beadle)

POWO has merged this species into Crataegus floridana Sarg., but BONAP considers Crataegus floridana Sarg. to be a synonym of Crataegus flava Aiton. However, POWO considers C. flava and C. floridana to be separate species. Furthermore, BONAP's reported range for C. versuta extends much farther west than the range BONAP reports for C. floridana. We have yet to make sense of this mess, and for now stick with BONAP's treatment.
