This map is based on our research. We have checked its accuracy to Level 3 ecoregions. Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

We found conflicting evidence of this species' range, however, all sources agree it is limited to a relatively narrow region within the Watson Highlands. FNA reports it as restricted to Kluane National Park but we found other sources reporting it occurring farther north as well.

Habitat

Found in open, sparse grasslands and stony ridges, often on areas that were once beaches of moraine-dammed glacial lakes.

Prefers well-drained soil and slightly dry conditions. On steep, south-facing slopes, usually restricted to the flatter tops and bottoms of the slope and absent from the driest, most exposed parts of the slope. Requires some degree of disturbance, and often found near ground squirrel holes.

This species has been threatened by fire suppression and reduction of herbivore populations, which has led shrubs to invade some of its habitat.

Life Cycle

This species is thought to be a short-lived perennial.
