This map is based on our research. We have checked its accuracy to Level 3 ecoregions. Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
This species is generally agreed-upon to be native to Western North America, but to have expanded eastward. Different sources reported different cutoffs of exactly where it was native; our map loosely follows that of Go Botany, which seemed to be the most up-to-date about the cutoff of where this species is native, but our map also includes herbarium records from Quebec which seem to be reflected in BONAP and POWO but are not referenced on Go Botany's map.
