Notes

The common name of this species, which unfortunately has reached widespread use, is doubly misleading: although it is native to a number of countries in South America, it is not native to Peru, nor is it even found there. Furthermore, it has recently been reclassified into the Verbena genus, making it a "true verbena" rather than a "mock verbena". The common name was coined when it belonged to a separate genus and was thought to only more superficially resemble the Verbena genus.
