We found conflicting reports on where this species is native. It is generally agreed to be native somewhere in the tropical Americas; some sources report it as native in the southern US. FNA says it is "undoubtedly introduced in Arizona" and "unclear whether the species is native in Louisiana", and Calflora reports it as introduced in California, but BONAP reports the opposite, native in AZ and CA but adventive from TX eastward. We have tentatively marked it introduced everywhere in the US but note that there is still uncertainty about where it is native. We chose the category Introduced over Expanded because there is a large distance between native populations in Mexico and the new populations, excepting perhaps some in exreme northwest Mexico which may belong to the same introduced population in CA. We have yet to build this species' map in Mexico.
