↑Faunal Associations
The larvae of the wasp Aulacidea hieracii, have been recorded forming galls on this species, and form them on various Hieracium species.
↑Notes
The common name "New England Hawkweed" is misleading as this species is not native to New England, nor is it even widespread in New England, only occurring there in scattered, isolated populations, at least presently. We also recommend avoiding the common name "European Hawkweed" as it is ambiguous, also referring to European hawkweed (Pilosella lactucella). Our preferred common name, "Savoy Hawkweed" is both unambiguous and not overtly misleading, and also corresponds to the scientific epithet sabaudum, which references the Savoy region in the Western Alps, now part of France, which is part of this species' native range.
