Fragrant Spikesedge (Cyperus sesquiflorus (Torr.) Mattf. & Kük.)

Also known as Kyllinga weed; also classified as Kyllinga odorata Vahl, Kyllinga sesquiflora Torr..

The populations of this species in North America were originally described as Kyllinga odorata Vahl; that species was merged into Cyperus sesquiflorus as subsp. sesquiflorus. There are two other recognized subspecies, but they are not known to occur anywhere in North America.

This species is agreed to be native to the Americas, but farther south, probably through much of Mexico. We marked US populations as Introduced rather than Expanded because there is a substantial gap between native populations in Mexico and the closest populations in Texas, with few records anywhere near the border. This gap is much larger than the gaps that exist within this species' native range. We have yet to build the portion of this species' map in Mexico.
