Notes

This species was at one point thought to be a separate species but was merged into thunberg's lespedeza (Lespedeza thunbergii), a species that is much more widely established across the US. Although the introduced ranges of the two taxa do not overlap, for the most part, there is one county where they are both reported. If these are from different subspecies or populations of the same species, the occurrence of both in the same area could, in the long-run, increase the local genetic diversity, increasing the likelihood that the species becomes invasive.
