This species is native to Mexico through Central America and the Caribbean. We mark the US populations expanded because they are close-to-contiguous with the native range, separated by only short distances not much longer than exist in this species' native range; also the distance from Florida to the native range in Cuba and The Bahamas is not much longer than the distances between many of the islands in its native range. We have yet to build the portion of its map in Mexico.
