We recommend against using the common name "climbing hempvine" because it is ambiguous and more frequently refers to climbing hempvine (Mikania scandens). We also recommend against using the name "mile-a-minute" because, although the two plants do not overlap in range, in North America it more frequently refers to Asiatic tearthumb (Persicaria perfoliata), and it can also refer to messina creeper (Ipomoea cairica), okie bean (Dipogon lignosus), and bukhara fleeceflower (Fallopia baldschuanica).
