Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
This species is widely agreed to be native to southern Mexico, and is also found a bit farther north along the Pacific coast; it is now found in Florida, where it is rare but has formed persistent populations, and there are scattered, ephemeral records farther north and west. We mark all these new portions of its range Introduced as they are separated from the native range by large areas, notably in northeast Mexico, where this species does not occur. We have yet to build the portion of its range map in Mexico.
