Strawberry Groundcherry (Alkekengi officinarum Moench)
Also classified as Physalis alkekengi L.
This was originally described in the Physalis genus, and many authors still treated it as such even centuries after its description, but we have updated to a more modern treatment accepted by BONAP and POWO, placing it in its own monotypic genus.

This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.
Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
This species has also been introduced in Canada both in the east and west, and is more widespread in the east. We have yet to build these portions of its range map.
