This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.
Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
This species is widely-agreed on to be native to Mexico and the southeast, but it has expanded its range inland and northward in the southeast, and also northwest into California. Different sources disagree about where exactly it is native; we follow FSUS for the southeast and BONAP and Calflora in recognizing it as not-native / adventive in California. We mark all of the new range as Expanded because of proximity to the native range and a clear pattern of expansion. We have yet to build the portion of the map in Mexico.
