Riverswamp Nutrush (Scleria distans Poir.)
Also classified as Scleria hirtella Sw. (Misapplication).
This species is frequently referred to in older material, including by USDA PLANTS and NSE, as Scleria hirtella Sw, but that name was misapplied to this species. S. hirtella is an annual, native to the Tropical Americas, and does not occur in the US. Although POWO correctly distinguishes these two species, their range for S. hirtella wrongly reports that species as occurring in the southeastern US, following the distribution of this species.

This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.
Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
This species is also native to Mexico; we have yet to build this portion of its map.
