This species is now found in a variety of regions, primarily in the Midwest, where it is not native. Although some of these populations are separated from the bulk of this species' range by significant distances, looking more broadly this region is surrounded by this species' native range to the west, north, and east. The edges of this species' range have always had significant gaps in its native distribution as well, and in the Midwest it seems to be colonizing new habitats created by the use of road salt. For these reasons we mark this species as expanded rather than introduced. We have not yet built the portion of this species range map in Canada, but it is native across much of Canada.
