BONAP has merged this into grassleaf rush (Juncus marginatus), which has a broader range; POWO and FSUS both reject this merge and consider these taxa separate; we have kept them separate as well.

This range map is based on a combination of the USDA data with regional sources, but our research has been limited by the fact that only some regional sources distinguish these species. For instance, the MD Biodiversity Project treats this as a separate species, whereas the Florida Plant Atlas does not.
