White Shootingstar (Primula latiloba (A.Gray) A.R.Mast & Reveal)
Also classified as Dodecatheon dentatum Hook., Dodecatheon latilobum (A.Gray) Elmer ex R.Knuth.
This species was first described in 1836 as Dodecatheon dentatum. In 1876, a plant was described as a variety of pride of ohio (Primula meadia), which was then named Dodecatheon meadia var. latilobum, and in 1905 that was reclassified as a proper species, Dodecatheon latilobum. However, that species was then merged with this one. More recently, the Dodecatheon genus was moved back into Primula in order to make Primula monophyletic. Normally only the genus name would be used, but in this case the name Primula dentata had already been used (in 1819) to describe a species, which was merged into Primula cortusoides. Thus the name of this species became Primula latiloba as latiloba was the second-oldest epithet properly used to describe it.
