This map is based on our research. We have checked its accuracy to Level 3 ecoregions. Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

Uses

This plant is occasionally sold for use in gardening, where it is valued for its scarlet flowers that attract hummingbirds, and its interesting foliage.

This plant is a hybrid of redstar (Ipomoea coccinea) and cypressvine (Ipomoea quamoclit). I. coccinea is widely established in North America, whereas I. quamoclit is slightly less so, more limited to the more southerly, coastal areas. Numerous other morning-glory (Ipomoea) species also occur in this hybrid's range.

Notes

BONAP and USDA also reports this hybrid as established in the wild in Florida, and the USDA also in Texas, but we could not find verification of these populations.
