This species is widely cultivated as an ornamental. It can escape cultivation and establish in the wild via vegetative reproduction, although the cultivated form is sterile so does not reproduce by seed. BONAP reports this species only in Mobile County, AL, whereas FSUS also reports it in the FL Coastal Plain both along the western panhandle and in central FL. FSUS marks these as waifs.
