Also classified as Mimulus constrictus (A.L.Grant) Pennell, L.Abrams, Mimulus viscidus subsp. constrictus (A.L.Grant) Munz.

This species was formerly considered to be a subspecies of what was formerly referred to as Mimulus viscidus, a taxon that has been split into three species by most treatment, the other populations placed into sticky monkeyflower (Diplacus viscidus) and Diplacus compactus.
