This species was formerly considered to be a variety of a taxon that was split into three species: this, sticky monkeyflower (Diplacus viscidus), and dense fruited monkeyflower (Diplacus constrictus).

Notes

To our knowledge this species has not been given a common name. Unfortunately the natural choice "Compact Monkeyflower" would not be a good choice because it is already used by the related compact monkeyflower (Mimulus spissus).
