Introduced or Not Present

This map is based on our research. We have checked its accuracy to Level 3 ecoregions. Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

This species is the only member of its genus; it is in the Sapindaceae family, which contains a large number of native and introduced genera, but it is not closely related to any other species in that family, instead being considered the most basal lineage still classified in that family.

Notes

We recommend against the use of the common name "Chinese flowering chestnut" because this species is not closely related to true chestnuts (Castanea sp.) and that name is likely to be confused with the much more widely-planted Chinese chestnut (Castanea mollissima). It is, however, in the same family (Sapindaceae) as horse-chestnuts and buckeyes (Aesculus sp.)
