BONAP refers to this taxon as Isoetes echinospora Durieu, whereas POWO lists Isoetes echinospora Durieu as a species limited to Europe and Siberia and neither native nor found in North America. We were not able to reconcile this inconsistency.
We refer to this species as Isoetes tenella Léman ex Desv because this designation seems to have a broader consensus.
