Paperbark Maple (Acer griseum (Franch.) Pax)
Page contents
↑Range
This species, native to China, is occasionally planted in landscaping in North America. Its seeds have low viability here in North America, which, combined with it only being uncommonly planted, is probably why it has not yet established here.↑Uses
This species is occasionally planted in landscaping, where it is valued for its distinctive red, peeling bark.
We recommend against growing it. Although it likely does not have as much invasive potential as maples such as Norway maple (Acer platanoides) and sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus), it still occupies space that could be instead occupied by native woody plants.
