This map is based on our research. We have checked its accuracy to Level 3 ecoregions. Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

This species has been widely planted in the US in gardens, where it was often wrongly labeled as the native northern barren strawberry (Waldsteinia fragarioides). It has been found establishing at one location in the Pennsylvania Piedmont; FSUS reports it as a waif, meaning it likely has not persisted in the wild, however it notes that it is "perhaps naturalizing". Thankfully this species does not seem to fare particularly well in the climate here so it likely has low invasive potential, but it still warrants caution and monitoring, as its presence in the wild is likely underreported.
