Also classified as Solidago speciosa var. rigidiuscula Torr. & A.Gray.
This taxon has previously been considered a variety of showy goldenrod (Solidago speciosa) but POWO and FSUS now separate it as a species; we follow that convention. This taxon has the more westerly distribution, whereas, treated separately, S. speciosa is more easterly.
