Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
This is a weedy plant that is rarely planted. In the new eastern portions of its range, it tends to colonize mostly anthropogenic habitats, suggesting that its range was limited by the lack of suitable open habitats, and it is now expanding since humans have created such habitats. There is a clear pattern of more new populations closer to its native range. It is likely under-reported and it will also likely expand to colonize more areas. We have therefore marked the new eastern portions of its range as expanded even though some of the eastern populations are isolated by large distances.
