This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.
This species is widely planted in gardens, and can seed aggressively, leading it to occasionally escape into the wild. It prefers open habitats, and also benefits from the clearing of land in the east. The combination of these factors have led to it establishing on scattered sites east of its native range. We mark the new range expanded because most of the sites are near its native range and separated only by short distances, but easternmost populations that are more isolated could perhaps also be marked introduced.
