Also known as viscid monkeyflower; also classified as Mimulus viscidus Congd..

What was formerly considered to be one species, Mimulus viscidus Congd. with a named subspecies and a separate named variety, Mimulus viscidus subsp. constrictus (A.L.Grant) Munz, and Mimulus viscidus var. compactus D.M.Thomps. respectively, has been separated into three species: this, dense fruited monkeyflower (Diplacus constrictus), and Diplacus compactus. Although most authorities, including BONAP, POWO, and Calflora agree on the nature of this split, BONAP still places one of them in the Mimulus genus, whereas POWO and Calflora place all three in the genus. We have adopted POWO's treatment. Note that the USDA still uses the scheme prior to the split, so they list a single species with a larger range.
