This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.

This species is sometimes included in grass seed mixes for rangeland and rehabilitation of degraded sites, mostly in its native range, but this use may also have contributed to its spread to new sites. There are scattered establishments east of the native range, where it has mostly colonized disturbed sites; we mark the ones in Mississippi and New York introduced because of their isolation, but the ones in Wisconsin and Illinois expanded because of proximity to the native range.
