This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.
Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
↑Notes
This plant is also native to southern Mexico, but we have not yet built that portion of its range map.
BONAP considers this species to be Morinda umbellata L. which POWO reports as a synonym of Gynochthodes umbellata (L.) Razafim. & B.Bremer, a species native from Tropical & Subtropical Asia through the western Pacific, and not found anywhere in North America.
We have retained POWO's classification scheme because we could not find any sources verifying Morinda umbellata as an accepted synonym of Morinda royoc L. We link to BONAP's map under this name because they are clearly using it to refer to this taxon, but we do not recognize it as valid.
