Although the common name "seaside agoseris" is the most widely-used, we recommend against common names that reference the genus of a scientific name, because if a species is reclassified into another genus, the common name then becomes misleading or confusing. Although "seaside false dandelion" is the least widely-used of the three common names for this species, we recommend using it because it is the best name: the Agoseris genus is widely referred to as "false dandelions", and this species grows near the seaside. The name "woolly goat chicory" is less descriptive because this species less closely resembles chicory (Cichorium intybus) than dandelion (Taraxacum sp.)
