This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.

Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.

We noticed a major discrepancy between the maps reported by various authorities. BONAP reports this species as, in the US, restricted to the southeast and PA, whereas FNA and POWO both report additional populations in Missouri and California. It is not, however, listed on Calflora nor Missouri Plants and we could not locate any specifics on these records. We examined FNA and POWO's synonymy and could not find any taxonomic explanations for the discrepancy so for now we consider these range reports probably in error and have deferred to BONAP's range map. This species is also native to Mexico, but we have yet to build this portion of its map.
