Sea-Daffodil (Pancratium maritimum L.)
Also known as spider lily; also classified as Hymenocallis caroliniana (L.) Herb., Hymenocallis maritima (L.) M.Roem.
Our scheme follows POWO which lists Hymenocallis caroliniana (L.) Herb. as a synonym of this taxon. Note however that many authors have misapplied that name to refer to other taxa, including shoals spiderlily (Hymenocallis coronaria), choctaw spiderlily (Hymenocallis choctawensis), and northern spiderlily (Hymenocallis occidentalis) var. occidentalis. The classification of these plants is also controversial and their treatment is inconsistent across different authors and sources. POWO reports this species as introduced only in Illinois and Tennessee whereas BONAP reports it as introduced only in California. This could possibly reflect differences in taxonomic treatments, but we have not yet investigated these discrepancies; for now we use BONAP's map but link to POWO's record for this same name, which may or may not refer to the same taxon.
