Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
This species is generally agreed upon to be native to Mexico and the Southwestern US, as well as Florida, but to have expanded its range somewhat in the southeast; we mark these new parts of the range Expanded as they are generally relatively close to the native range, perhaps excepting the isolated NC population. We have yet to build the portion of the range map in Mexico.
