This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.

This species is generally agreed-upon to be native to Mexico, but the exact extent of its native range is not known. It has widely established in the southeastern US, initially from landscaping escapes but is now spreading on its own. Some sources consider it to be native to Texas; we use BONAP's treatment which considers it expanded everywhere in the US. However, because its introduced range is contiguous with its native range, with only small gaps, we consider it expanded everywhere in the US. We have yet to build the portion of its range map in Mexico.
