Introduced or Not Present |
This tentative map is based on our own research. It may have limited data on Canada and/or Mexico, and there is some subjectivity in our assignment of plants as introduced vs. expanded. Read more in this blog post.
Although this plant occurs somewhere in each of these regions, it may only occur in a small part of some or all of them.
This species is reported inconsistently in different sources; this is likely due to misidentification with either the native heartwing sorrel (Rumex hastatulus) or the more common, introduced common sheep sorrel (Rumex acetosella). BONAP's 2014 maps report this species as native to Washington but their later data, not published on their website, corrects this. USDA reports this species as both native and introduced in many states, but this is likely in error. Because of misidentifications we have found it hard to find accurate data on this plant's range in Canada and we have yet to build the portion of its map in Canada; it likely occurs across Canada as reported by both BONAP and POWO, but is uncommon. Because of the history of misidentification of other more common species with this one, it is best to treat reports of this species with caution.
